Jack’s cross-channel case leads to the sighting of a famous TV/Movie Star car, a ‘General Lee’!
Jack’s been awfully busy lately with a number of car-crime cases but one of them became more than usually complex and wound up involving a trip to Lille and other locales in Northern France, on the Belgian border. On a recent trip he was walking along a nice, sedate Lille boulevard when he suddenly saw a rather amazing car to be cruising through a French town – a ‘General Lee’ (see photo).
The ‘General Lee’, of course, is the world-famous 1969 Dodge Charger driven by the Duke cousins Bo and Luke in the television series The Dukes of Hazzard. It is known for its signature horn (plays a melody from Dixie), its chases and stunts—especially its long/high jumps—and for having its doors welded shut, leaving the Dukes to climb in and out through the windows. The car appears in every episode but one.
It’s not likely that this car would have been one of the actual cars used in the original series but in fact there were over 300 of this model used in the filming of the various episodes.
